Set Adrift Without A Party

Yes, we are the RINOs, the Republicans-In Name Only. Quite an astute observation by Erik Erickson from Wednesday’s RedState Morning Brief.

He was of course speaking of the Mississippi Republican Senate primary between Thad Cochran and Chris McDaniel. Everyone is. Well, not everyone. I’m sure TMZ or Entertainment TV nary gave it a whisper.

No, I’m speaking of us geeks. You know, we, who actually care about preserving what’s left of the United States. We, who are more concerned with the deteriorating state of our country than the ‘R’ or the ‘D’ that follows our name.

At this point, after Tuesday night, I think it’s safe to say we really don’t have an affiliation.

You might say – what about the Tea Party? Well, I suppose, but that’s not a party. It’s a set of ideals, of principles, a movement.

So, if this is what our once great antislavery party – the party of Lincoln, of Coolidge and Reagan has morphed into, I want no part of it.

The establishment Republicans, it seems, have officially chosen sides and figuratively taken up arms against us. In essence, they have declared war against conservatives.

George Washington warned of this – the two-party system – and we are witnessing his foretelling.

As an aside: The more I read and learn about the founders, the more I’m convinced that this group of dead white guys were possibly the greatest students of human nature the world has ever known.

So here we are. Yes we have a two-party system, but as Rush Limbaugh says, it’s no longer the Republicans and Democrats. It’s now the Ruling Class – the political aristocracy versus the Country Class – those who no longer matter – the rest of us.

And as Erickson said – the Ruling Class Republicans don’t rule, but are merely puppets, marionettes, being controlled by the real power brokers – their big-money donors and lobbyists.

Those who control our politicians don’t care about preserving the country – about putting the security and prosperity of America first. They care only about money, power and control. How they achieve these ends is evidently of no consequence.

This was on full display in Mississippi by having to turn out the black Democrat vote to push the old fossil Cochran over the finish line.

And for what? With the animosity toward its own base, created by the ruling class’s own hand, Cochran is no shoe-in to be reelected.

They don’t actually think Cochran will receive a single Democrat vote in the general election, do they? The answer is no, and I don’t think they care.

In my opinion, as well as many a lot smarter than me, the goal is to defeat the conservatives. It doesn’t matter the cost. They would rather the seat go to a Democrat than a conservative. That’s just sad!

So now what? What do conservatives do? Well, we keep fighting – guerrilla style if we must. We continue picking off establishment types where we can and try to throw monkey wrenches into the system when we see an opening.

We must do our level best to financially support, but also hold those who claim to be true conservatives to the values that they originally espoused and jettison those who travel to the dark side, ala Rand Paul.

What we don’t do is vote for any more ruling class Republicans. We don’t get suckered into the lesser of two evils, hold your nose and pull the lever pleas.

Rome may burn anyway, but I’m not going to be one of those throwing gas on the fire.

If we lose, we lose, but at least we can look our children in the eye and tell them that we didn’t sell out.
